"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single
moment before starting to improve the world..."
                                                              ~
Anne Frank

At Danbee we care about others, so we provide opportunities each summer where our girls can demonstrate their commitment to better the world through volunteer work projects. Our campers have banked hundreds of community service hours in an effort to "give back" to society.

Working in small teams our girls have volunteered their time and effort on numerous projects over the past several summers. Their unselfish and hard work is noted, appreciated and celebrated by those who have been touched with their "acts of kindness".

Community Service and Volunteer Projects have included:

The town of Peru, Danbee's hometown, has a public library that was built in the late 1700's. It was in need of a facelift and the town was trying to figure out how to accomplish this effort in light of financial constraints that prevented them from honoring this landmark. Danbee campers came to the rescue!!

Danbee girls scraped and painted this historically significant structure, bringing it back to its original glory and allowing another generation of Peru's residents to enjoy and celebrate the town's oldest and most prized building.

Camp Danbee is one of the proud sponsors of America's Camp - a one week, free of charge, summer camp experience for children who lost a parent on 9/11. Danbee girls volunteer their time each summer to make welcome signs, to prepare goody bags, and to assist Danbee's volunteer staff members with other preparations for America's Camp. Former Wel-B-Yon campers (our oldest age group) attend America's Camp serving as CIT's and Junior Program Staff, while many Danbee staff members volunteer as program and bunk counselors for the week. The caring continues for many even after graduating from Danbee... What a wonderful testament to our girls' commitment to helping others.

Danbee campers participated in a swim-a-thon in memory of Brianna DiCarlo, the five year old daughter of Danbee's Assistant Facilities Manager Don DiCarlo. The event was planned by our oldest campers whose purpose was to raise funds for GIVE KIDS THE WORLD; a wonderful charity that allows families to take an all-expense paid trip to their village in Central Florida. Children with life-threatening illnesses can visit all the fun spots that Orlando and the surrounding area have to offer. Each camper swam laps to raise awareness and money so that other deserving families can enjoy a respite from the trials of living with a serious illness.

Another fun and fulfilling project that Danbee helped sponsor was a Fun Fair for Brianna. This carnival was open to local residents and included gaming booths, face painting, performing artists, and a lot of great food. Danbee girls staffed the attractions and worked hard to make sure that everyone in attendance had a great time. The effort raised awareness about GIVE KIDS THE WORLD while raising funds for this very worthy charity.

Danbee dancers show off their moves at Dance Recitals at several local Nursing Homes. The residents not only enjoy the talented ballet, hip-hop, tap and jazz routines, but report how much fun it is to meet and mix with our campers. It is as much a treat for the audience as it is for the performers.

Community Service at Danbee... A "not so" random act of kindness!!!
